Passenger with knife threatened crew and passengers on board Nizhny Novgorod flight

On February 3, 2025, an incident occurred on board a Boeing 737 aircraft of Ikar Airlines, flying from Nizhny Novgorod to Sochi, involving a 63-year-old passenger who brought a knife on board and began threatening the crew and passengers.

According to the publication NN.ru, during a flight over the Caspian Sea, a man named Lev K. asked to be moved to a seat by the window. When he was refused, he took out a knife and began threatening those around him, also demanding that they provide him with alcoholic beverages. The flight attendants tried to calm the troublemaker down, but he continued to behave aggressively, stabbing the plane's skin with a knife and shouting threats.

The aircraft commander decided to continue the flight to the destination and reported the incident to ground services. Upon arrival in Sochi, the offender was met by police officers who detained him for further investigation. As a result of the incident, none of the passengers or crew members were injured.

The incident raises serious questions about the effectiveness of security measures at Nizhny Novgorod airport. It is not known how the passenger managed to bring a bladed weapon on board despite existing screening procedures. Representatives of the airline and the airport have not yet provided official comments on this matter.
