On the evening of December 2, a closed meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin, US Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner concluded in the Kremlin. The talks, which began around 19:40 PM Moscow time, lasted nearly five hours—significantly longer than expected, a RIA Novosti correspondent reports from the scene.
The first footage of the meeting appeared in official Kremlin sources shortly after the conversation began: Putin greeted the guests in one of the residence's halls, shaking hands with them. Participating on the Russian side were presidential aide Yuri Ushakov and Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and special representative for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries.
The American delegation consisted of only three people: Witkoff himself, Kushner, and an interpreter. The absence of other officials emphasized the informal and confidential nature of the visit.
This is Steve Witkoff's sixth trip to Russia in 2025—a record-breaking frequency for a US administration official in recent decades. Previous visits were also held behind closed doors and were accompanied by rumors of a major peace agreement being prepared for Ukraine.
Following the meeting, no official statements were made.
