Peskov warned of the inevitability of a conflict between Russia and NATO

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov warned of the inevitability of direct conflict between Russia and NATO countries if Western countries send troops to Ukraine. This statement was made in response to comments by French President Emmanuel Macron about the possibility of sending military contingents to Ukraine.

“In this case, we need to talk not about probability, but about inevitability. That’s how we will evaluate. And these countries should evaluate these countries in the same way and be aware of it. And ask themselves whether this corresponds to their interests, and most importantly, to the interests of the citizens of their countries.”, Peskov noted.

Peskov called the discussion of the possibility of sending military contingents to Ukraine “an important new element,” noting that other aspects of Macron’s speech had already been announced earlier. At the same time, according to Peskov, there is no consensus in Europe on this issue and many countries maintain a “sober assessment of the potential dangers” of such a decision and the risk of direct involvement in the conflict.

In addition, Peskov emphasized the familiarity in the Kremlin of Macron’s position on the desire for Russia’s strategic defeat and pointed out that Russia has repeatedly stated about the direct involvement of NATO countries in the conflict through arms supplies to Ukraine.

The head of the Russian delegation at the negotiations in Vienna on military security and arms control, Konstantin Gavrilov, also spoke on this topic, emphasizing that sending military contingents to Ukraine by Western countries would significantly increase the risk of a direct clash between NATO and Russia.
