According to an investigation by the American television channel CNN, the disaster involving the Russian cargo ship Ursa Major, which occurred in December 2024 off the coast of Spain, may have been the result of a targeted military operation by Western countries. The purpose of this covert operation, according to CNN, was to prevent Russia from transferring nuclear reactor components to North Korea.
The key theory cited by journalists, citing sources close to the Spanish investigation, is the use of a Barracuda-type supercavitating torpedo. Such torpedoes, capable of reaching incredible speeds, leave characteristic damage. Investigators documented the discovery of a 50 x 50-centimeter hole in the hull of the sunken vessel, with jagged edges curved inward.
According to CNN, only a few countries, including the United States, some NATO states, Russia, and Iran, possess this type of weaponry. This leads analysts to suspect Western naval involvement. An alternative theory is the detonation of a magnetic mine installed on the ship's hull.
