The Pacific Fleet submarine Ufa successfully carried out combat firing of Kalibr cruise missiles during exercises held in the Sea of Japan. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry, specifying that the operation took place on March 26, 2025, and included the destruction of both sea and coastal targets. The submarine crew, before beginning the mission, made a covert transition to the designated area, demonstrating a high level of training and coordination.
The first Kalibr missile was aimed at a surface object simulating a mock enemy ship. According to the military, the target was hit with high accuracy. The second missile, launched shortly after, hit a coastal target at the Surkum tactical field in Khabarovsk Krai. The launch range was more than a thousand kilometers, which emphasizes the capabilities of this weapon in delivering strikes at a significant distance from the launch point. Both shots were recorded at the calculated time, which confirmed the reliability of the guidance and control systems.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Alexander Moiseyev, highly praised the actions of the Ufa crew, expressing gratitude to the submariners for their professionalism and successful completion of the assigned task. The exercises were accompanied by comprehensive support: surface ships and auxiliary vessels of the Pacific Fleet participated in the firing, as well as aircraft and drones of naval aviation, which conducted surveillance and recorded the results of hits. Such coordination made it possible to practice the interaction of various naval forces in conditions as close as possible to combat.
The Ufa submarine, a Project 636.3 Varshavyanka class submarine, is known for its stealth and powerful armament. Equipped with Kalibr cruise missiles, it can strike targets at sea and on land while remaining undetected by the enemy. These characteristics make it an important element of strategic deterrence in the region, where Russia is seeking to strengthen its position amid growing tensions in the Asia-Pacific region.
The exercises in the Sea of Japan are part of a broader program to increase the Pacific Fleet's combat readiness. In March 2025, the Russian Defense Ministry reported maneuvers in the area, including practicing anti-submarine operations and launching missiles from surface ships. According to TASS, earlier this month, the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov successfully hit a target 500 kilometers from the launch point, which highlights the active use of precision weapons in the current training.
