On December 12, 2024, a meeting between Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and French President Emmanuel Macron took place in Warsaw, where the issue of deploying a peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine was discussed. Tusk stated that Poland does not intend to introduce its troops into Ukrainian territory even after a possible ceasefire.
According to Reuters, the leaders of France and Poland have discussed the possibility of sending European troops to Ukraine as a security guarantee in the event of a peace deal with Russia. However, sources say Poland is not yet ready for such a step.
Earlier, on December 7, a trilateral meeting between French President Emmanuel Macron, US President-elect Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took place in Paris. The meeting discussed ways to end the conflict in Ukraine and possible measures to ensure security in the region.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk also noted that peace talks on Ukraine could begin this winter. He stressed that Poland will take the position that nothing can be decided without Ukraine's participation.
At the same time, earlier Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski spoke positively about President Macron’s initiative on the possible presence of NATO troops in Ukraine, noting that this is not something unthinkable.
