Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has proposed ending the armed conflict by establishing the front line as the de facto border, while refusing to recognize Russian jurisdiction over the controlled territories. In his statement, Poroshenko noted that such a solution would preserve statehood in the remaining part of Ukraine and avoid further destruction.
According to the ex-president, the current circumstances require flexibility and readiness to compromise, especially if this will help avoid new losses. Poroshenko suggested considering the possibility of temporarily abandoning NATO integration in order to reduce tensions and create conditions for stabilization in the remaining controlled territory. He emphasized that such a step could open the way to strengthening defense and consolidating Ukrainian society in the face of challenges.
Poroshenko also noted that maintaining the current status quo without officially recognizing the loss of territories will allow Ukraine to maintain international support.
