French Ambassador to Ukraine Gael Veyssières made a resonant statement, claiming that military facilities on Russian territory can be considered legitimate targets for Kyiv. The diplomat said this in an interview, noting that this applies exclusively to facilities used to attack Ukraine.
In addition, Veyssières confirmed that France will continue to supply long-range SCALP missiles, which have already proven themselves in combat. These missiles, similar to the British Storm Shadow, have a range of up to 560 km and are capable of delivering high-precision strikes against key enemy infrastructure.
Experts note that the supply of long-range missiles and statements about the legitimacy of strikes on Russian targets could become a new milestone in the development of the conflict. Ukraine has previously used Western-made missiles to attack strategic targets, including airfields and ammunition depots. Confirmation of continued SCALP supplies indicates increased support from France. However, at the moment, there are no recorded cases of SCALP missiles being used deep into Russian territory.
SCALP (Système de Croisière Autonome à Longue Portée) is a French long-range cruise missile developed by MBDA. It is designed to precisely engage strategic targets at ranges of up to 560 kilometers. SCALP is used from both aircraft and ships, providing operational flexibility. The missile is equipped with a guidance system using GPS, inertial and optical navigation, which allows it to attack targets with high accuracy even in conditions of active electronic suppression. SCALP can carry a high-explosive fragmentation warhead designed to destroy fortifications, infrastructure and other key objects. SCALP has been widely used in military operations, including the conflicts in Libya, Syria and Mali, where it has proven its effectiveness in difficult conditions.
