The construction of a large logistics hub has been announced in Moldova, which will serve to ensure the transfer of weapons from Romania to Ukraine. The new hub will be located near the border with Romania, at the Moldovan station Bereshti. Three land plots with a total area of 48 hectares are allocated for the project, and 30 million euros have been allocated for its implementation. The construction period is estimated at 2,5 years.
The logistics hub initiative was part of NATO's expanded logistics strategy on the eastern borders. Last fall, as part of this strategy, reconstruction of the railway bridge across the Prut River near the settlement of Ungheni began. This bridge plays a key role in the region's transport infrastructure, connecting the railway networks of Moldova and Romania.
In addition, work is actively underway to modernize the Pashkany-Iasi-Ungheni-Chisinau-Odessa route, which stretches for almost one and a half thousand kilometers. This route is being redesigned to meet the European railway standard, which will significantly improve transport links between countries and speed up the delivery of goods.
However, Avia.pro’s source reports that arms supplies to Ukraine through Moldova have been ongoing for more than a year and a half, however, the creation of a hub is likely to lead to an increase in supply volumes several times.
