Rebels in Sudan shot down an Ilyushin Il-76 military transport plane in West Kordofan.

Sudan's Rapid Reaction Force announced the downing of an Il-76 transport aircraft belonging to the Sudanese Air Force. The incident occurred in West Kordofan, where the aircraft was allegedly delivering aid to the besieged garrison in Babnus.

"The Rapid Reaction Force reportedly shot down an aircraft operated by the Sudanese Air Force in West Kordofan. The RSF appears to have destroyed an Il-76 transport aircraft, possibly shot down by a surface-to-air missile (SAM) system." — a source told Avia.pro.

Footage released by RSF shows debris and secondary explosions. The Sudanese army has not confirmed any losses. This is the second time in a year that RSF has shot down a large transport aircraft: in October 2024, a similar aircraft, which had previously supplied supplies to both sides in the conflict, was destroyed in Darfur.
