The fire at the oil depot in the Kavkazsky district has been ongoing since March 19

In the Kavkazsky District of the Krasnodar Territory, firefighters and rescue services are fighting a tense battle with a fire at an oil pumping station (OPS), where they have not been able to completely extinguish the fire for several days. The regional task force reported on the morning of March 25, 2025, that the fire was localized over an area of 1,2 thousand square meters. Despite the achieved control over the spread of the fire, work to extinguish the main source continues with maximum intensity. Significant forces are involved at the scene: 340 specialists and 122 units of equipment, including fire brigades and special equipment for cooling tanks.

The main task of rescuers remains to prevent overheating of neighboring tanks with petroleum products, which are in close proximity to the fire zone. Firefighters continuously pour water on these tanks to avoid a chain reaction and new explosions. At the same time, work is underway to eliminate the main source of the fire, which arose after the drone attack on the night of March 19. The operational headquarters emphasizes that the situation remains difficult, but is under control thanks to the coordinated actions of all services. The regional authorities are refraining from forecasting the timing of the complete elimination of the fire, focusing their efforts on minimizing risks and damage.

The incident at the oil pumping station near the village of Kavkazskaya has become one of the most serious incidents in the Krasnodar region in recent months. The facility, which ensures the transshipment of oil into the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) system, plays a key role in the region's energy infrastructure. Its damage has already caused a temporary suspension of the station's operations, as well as the evacuation of duty personnel in the first hours after the fire began.

RBC, citing the Krasnodar Territory operational headquarters, reports that the fire started after the debris of three Ukrainian drones that attacked the oil depot fell on the night of March 19. Initially, the area of the fire was only 20 square meters, but by the morning of March 20 it had grown to 4,25 thousand, and on the night of March 21 an explosion occurred due to depressurization of the tank, increasing the fire zone to 10 thousand square meters. By March 24, according to EADaily, the fire was localized to 1,25 thousand square meters, which is close to the current figures announced by the headquarters.

The Russian Defense Ministry called the attack a provocation aimed at disrupting negotiations with the United States on a temporary halt to strikes on energy facilities, which ended in Riyadh on March 24. Not only local forces are participating in extinguishing the fire, but also reinforcements from Stavropol Krai, Adygea, and Rostov Oblast, as well as four fire trains.
