On the night of April 29, 2025, a major fire broke out at an oil depot in the industrial zone of the village of Kirillovka near Novorossiysk in the Krasnodar Territory. According to military correspondent Vladimir Romanov, the fire started in a diesel fuel tank, after which the fire spread to nearby cars and containers.
Romanov noted that on April 25, 2025, the situation in the Novorossiysk area was studied by an American Boeing P-8A Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft. This maritime patrol aircraft, equipped with radars and target detection systems, regularly appears in the Black Sea region. According to Flightradar24, the P-8A was spotted in international airspace off the coast of the Krasnodar Territory, which led to speculation about possible reconnaissance before the attack. Romanov suggested that the data collected by the aircraft could have been passed on to Ukrainian forces to prepare for the strike, although there is no direct evidence of this.
"Novorossiysk, Krasnodar Krai, Russia. Fire at the oil depot in Kirillovka. It should be noted that on 25.04.2025, the US Boeing P-8A Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft studied the situation in the Novorossiysk area," - it is told in the message.
Novorossiysk, as a key port and oil hub for Russia, has been the target of attacks on numerous occasions. In March 2024, Ukrainian drones struck an oil refinery in Slavyansk-na-Kubani, and on April 25, 2025, a few days before the fire, the Russian Defense Ministry reported the downing of two UAVs over the Krasnodar region.
