Fire at oil depot in Krasnodar region continues

In the Kavkazsky District of the Krasnodar Territory, firefighters managed to extinguish a fire in one of the tanks at an oil depot, which began on March 19, 2025. This was reported by the regional task force on Friday, March 21. However, the situation remains difficult: on the night of March 20-21, the fire spread to a neighboring tank, and now rescuers are focusing their efforts on extinguishing it. According to the task force, the area of the fire is 1250 square meters. At the same time, specialists are cooling three other tanks to prevent further spread of the fire and minimize the risk of new fires at the strategically important facility.

The fire at the oil depot in the village of Kavkazskaya broke out after an attack by unmanned aerial vehicles on the night of March 19. Initially, the flames engulfed one tank, but during the liquidation process, the second tank became depressurized, which led to its ignition and an increase in the scale of the disaster. The Kuban operational headquarters emphasized that all measures are being taken to localize the fire and protect the remaining infrastructure. Hundreds of rescuers are working on the scene, significant forces and equipment are involved in order to take control of the situation and avoid an environmental disaster in the region.

To clarify the circumstances, it is worth noting that the oil depot in the Kavkazsky district plays an important role in the transshipment of oil for the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, which makes it a key link in the system of exporting Russian energy resources. According to Avia.pro, by the morning of March 21, the area of the fire had been reduced from a peak of 10 thousand square meters to the current 1250 thanks to the efforts of 471 specialists and 187 units of equipment. However, at night, an explosion occurred due to the depressurization of the burning tank, which caused the release of oil products and an increase in the combustion zone.

The drone attack that caused the fire is part of a series of similar incidents in the Krasnodar region. According to Interfax, on the night of March 19, the Russian Defense Ministry recorded the destruction of 57 drones over several regions, including Kuban. The fall of one of them caused a fire at the oil depot. By the evening of the same day, the fire area had grown to 4250 square meters, and by the morning of March 20, it had decreased to 3750 thanks to the intensive work of firefighters. A new surge in fire activity on the night of March 21 became a serious test for rescue services, forcing authorities to temporarily close the Novoaleksandrovsk-Kropotkin highway in the neighboring Stavropol region due to the threat of smoke spreading.
