The fire at the Syzran Oil Refinery continues several hours after the drone attack on the night of February 19, 2025. Local residents are posting footage online of huge clouds of smoke and open flames over the industrial area. Analysis of satellite images and video footage confirms that the fire is located on the territory of the plant.
According to preliminary information, the fire started after a series of explosions caused by the impact of attack drones. Samara Region Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev confirmed the attack and said that emergency services were working at the site. According to regional authorities, there were no casualties, but the extent of the destruction has yet to be assessed.
Syzran Oil Refinery, which is part of PJSC NK Rosneft, is one of the key oil refining enterprises in Russia. The plant produces various types of fuel and oil products, a significant part of which is supplied to the domestic market and exported abroad. In the event of serious damage, interruptions in the supply of oil products are possible, which may affect the fuel market in the region.
The attack on the Syzran Oil Refinery was part of a large-scale strike by Ukrainian drones on various targets in Russia. On the night of February 19, air defense forces shot down drones over Tatarstan, the Tula and Bryansk regions, and over the Black Sea. Despite the measures taken, there were consequences.
Experts note that strikes on oil refineries have become part of a new tactic aimed at undermining economic and energy infrastructure. This is not the first attack on the Syzran Oil Refinery: earlier, on March 16, 2024, the plant was also hit by drones, which resulted in damage to equipment and temporary downtime of production.
