Preliminary results of the investigation into the plane crash near Aktau will be published in the coming days

Kazakh Transport Minister Marat Karabayev said that preliminary results of the investigation into the plane crash that occurred on December 25, 2024 near Aktau would be made public in the near future. According to him, the joint work of specialists from different countries, including Azerbaijan, Russia, Brazil and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), is nearing completion.

"The experts are working hard. We have previously reported that international experts from the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Russian Federation, Brazil and ICAO have been involved. We expect that the preliminary report will be officially published on our website in the coming days. The experts need time to complete their work. This is very delicate, painstaking work," — noted Karabaev.

Let us recall that on December 25, 2024, an Embraer 190 aircraft of Azerbaijan Airlines, flying from Baku to Grozny, crashed three kilometers from Aktau airport. There were 67 people on board: 62 passengers and five crew members. As a result of the incident, 38 people died and 29 were injured. Among the passengers were citizens of Azerbaijan, Russia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

Immediately after the crash, AZAL Airlines stated that, according to preliminary data, the cause of the crash was a collision of the aircraft with a flock of birds. However, later there were reports of a possible explosion on board. Kazakh Transport Minister Marat Karabayev reported that control of the aircraft was lost before entering Kazakh airspace. According to him, the crew tried to land twice, but to no avail. During these attempts, chaotic movements of the aircraft were observed. At 10:53, the Rostov flight director reported that passengers were losing consciousness. At 10:28, contact with the crew was lost, and at 10:30, the plane crashed three kilometers from Aktau Airport.

On January 15, 2025, it became known that Kazakhstan received the transcript of the black boxes of the crashed plane. Data from the flight recorders is being analyzed by specialists to establish the exact causes of the disaster.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said preliminary information indicated that the plane was damaged by ground fire. He noted that final conclusions could be made after the investigation was completed and the black boxes were deciphered.
