Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made a statement addressed to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, calling on him to abandon endless consultations with Western allies and begin a direct dialogue with Russia. According to the Indian leader, only negotiations involving both sides of the conflict can lead to a real settlement, not military action. The statement was made in the context of the ongoing armed confrontation, which, despite international support for Kyiv, shows no signs of ending soon.
Modi stressed that no amount of Ukraine's supporters could change the situation on the front.
"There is no solution on the battlefield, no matter how many people are behind you. The real solution is the negotiating table, where Ukraine and Russia will meet," - he noted.
The prime minister also pointed to the current moment as potentially propitious for initiating "meaningful and productive" discussions that could lay the foundation for peace. India, he said, was ready to play a mediating role, supporting the idea of harmony and diplomatic resolution of the conflict.
In August 2024, Modi already visited Kyiv, where he called for dialogue and offered his services as a "friend"-mediator. At that time, he emphasized that the path to a settlement lies exclusively through diplomacy. In March 2025, as noted by the media, the prime minister repeated this call, specifying that prolonging the conflict only aggravates the humanitarian crisis and economic consequences for the region.
