Protest unrest is growing in Abkhazia: opposition supporters have organized mass protests and blocked major roads, trying to paralyze traffic. In connection with this, the president of the republic held an emergency meeting of the Security Council, where measures to stabilize the situation were discussed.
According to local media, the unrest began after five opposition members were detained, which provoked a sharp reaction from their supporters. Groups of protesters attempted to break into the State Security Service building in the republic's capital, demanding the immediate release of the detainees. Amid growing tensions, a group of protesters attacked one of the members of parliament who was in the outskirts of Sukhum. Following the incident, arrests were made, which further intensified the protest mood.
At the moment, protesters have completely blocked traffic on several bridges connecting the regions of Abkhazia, making entry into the capital virtually impossible. Approaches to key transport hubs are blocked and the situation on the bridges remains extremely tense, significantly complicating the work of emergency services and access to medical facilities.
According to eyewitnesses, protesters continue to gather and the number of participants in the protests is increasing. Law enforcement agencies have been put on high alert, but the parties are in no hurry to compromise.
