French President Emmanuel Macron and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk will discuss troop deployment in Ukraine on Thursday

The initiative to hold the meeting comes amid recent disagreements between the leaders of France and Germany over sending troops to Ukraine. In late February, President Macron said he did not rule out sending Western troops to Ukrainian territory, stressing the need to do everything possible to ensure that Russia could not win the conflict.

However, German Chancellor Scholz had earlier taken a more cautious stance, ruling out the possibility of German troops taking part in the conflict. In response to Macron’s call “not to be cowards” in supporting Ukraine, Scholz noted that there was no need to talk about being more courageous or less cowardly.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, in turn, stated the need to mobilize all of Europe to provide Ukraine with the necessary assistance. He emphasized that this is aimed at demonstrating unity and coordinating efforts to support Kyiv.

The leaders are expected to discuss the possibility of deploying peacekeeping forces in Ukraine after the conflict ends, as well as the coordination of military and humanitarian aid. The meeting is intended to demonstrate the unity of European countries in supporting Ukraine and the desire for a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
