The Belarusian Gayun project leaked information about informants and announced its closure

On February 5, 2025, it became known about unauthorized access to the chat with the bot of the monitoring project "Belarusian Gayun", which collected information from citizens. The creator of the project, Anton Motolko, admitted that the incident occurred due to his error. He noted that he does not know how much data could have been downloaded during the time that the third-party account had access. Motolko emphasized that those who sent information that allows them to be identified or used accounts with open data are at risk. Against this background, today it became known that the project is ceasing its work, which raised suspicions that the data was leaked deliberately.

As the source notes, the case of unauthorized access described by Motolko may indeed have taken place, but the situation is more reminiscent of a targeted leak of data, including for material compensation.

"Information about thousands of users can be easily sold. It is obvious that the so-called "independent project" was simply another way to make money", - the expert notes.
