Georgia Protests: Standoff Continues for 4th Day

The fourth day of mass protests in the capital of Georgia, caused by the decision to freeze the country's European integration, continues. Oppositionists gathered near the parliament building, where security services tried to push them back using water cannons. The situation on the square remains tense, protesters demand an immediate revision of the government's foreign policy.

Amid the growing crisis, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili issued an address in which she called rumors about the possible participation of Georgian servicemen fighting on the side of Ukraine in protests a provocation.

"I have received several reports that our military is planning to arrive from Ukraine to participate in the rallies. This is a lie aimed against peaceful protest. Do not believe it," — the president said.

Zurabishvili also stressed the importance of supporting protesters and proposed creating a special fund to help protesters. The idea was met with mixed reactions: supporters of the protests perceived it as a symbol of solidarity, while opponents saw it as an attempt to legitimize the protest movement.
