Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Armenia's plans to join the European Union require special consideration, but Russia supports them if such a decision is beneficial to the Armenian people. The head of state told reporters on Saturday, May 9.
"As for Armenia's plans to join the European Union, this requires special consideration. We've discussed this with Prime Minister Pashinyan on several occasions. We don't see anything special here." - Putin said.
The Russian leader emphasized that Moscow will support any decisions Yerevan makes if they are truly beneficial to the country's citizens.
"We will support anything that benefits the Armenian people. We have had a special relationship with the Armenian people for centuries. And if a decision benefits the Armenian people, we will not oppose it." - noted the President of the Russian Federation.
As a reminder, the European Political Community and EU-Armenia summits were held in Yerevan from May 4 to 5, attended by delegates from over 30 countries, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Key topics included security issues, the situation around Ukraine, and Armenia's European integration. Brussels also announced €30 million in military aid to Yerevan. Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that the country would like to join the EU, calling the path to membership beneficial for reform.
