Russia has put forward an initiative to create a common register of the memorial heritage of the Great Patriotic War for the CIS countries. This was announced by President Vladimir Putin at a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Such a measure will help preserve the memory of the heroic past of the peoples of the former Soviet Union, who jointly defended their homeland from Nazi aggression during the war.
"The creation of a single register of the memorial heritage of the Great Patriotic War will contribute to the preservation of historical truth and respect for the feat of our ancestors. This is important for both the current and future generations of citizens of the CIS countries", notes the expert.
At the moment, the position of other CIS countries on this matter remains unknown.
