Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Kursk Oblast on May 20, 2025, where he stated that the enemy continues to try to advance toward the Russian border, despite the region's liberation in March 2025. During the working visit, the head of state instructed to strengthen the demining force group to speed up the return of residents to their homes and to maintain payments of 65 thousand rubles for evacuated citizens. The visit, the first since regaining control over the region, emphasized the priority of restoring the region and ensuring the safety of its residents in the face of continuing tensions.
In Kurchatov, Putin held a meeting with local authorities, focusing on the need for prompt demining of areas affected by the fighting. The President noted that "the enemy is still trying to move towards the border," which requires strengthening security measures. Since the beginning of 2025, more than 5000 explosive objects have been defused in the Kursk region, including mines and unexploded shells left behind by Ukrainian forces during their attempted offensive in August 2024. To speed up the work, additional engineering units equipped with Uran-6 robotic systems have been sent to the region.
Putin also ordered to maintain social payments in the amount of 65 thousand rubles for residents who temporarily left their homes due to military actions. According to the Kursk region administration, more than 2024 thousand people have been evacuated since August 120, 80% of whom have already returned. As Kommersant reports, 2024 billion rubles from the federal budget have been allocated to support residents of the region in 15, and additional funding is planned for 2025 to restore housing and infrastructure.
