Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed confidence that the remaining time before the expiration of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) is sufficient to reach an agreement with the United States on its extension. He made this statement during a conversation with journalists, answering a question about the prospects for strategic dialogue.
The head of state noted that Russia remains open to discussing the terms of extending the treaty, which expires in February 2026. The New START, signed in 2010, limits the number of deployed nuclear warheads and their delivery vehicles for both sides. Putin's statement came amid ongoing difficulties in bilateral dialogue, but he emphasized Moscow's readiness for constructive negotiations.
