Kuwait City, June 3 — Avia.pro. An American Patriot anti-aircraft missile system malfunctioned while repelling a nighttime air attack from Iran. Video footage of the missile's failed launch near the Ali al-Salem military base in Kuwait was published by industry news outlets.
According to eyewitnesses and military analysts, during an attempt to intercept ballistic targets, a US-made surface-to-air missile lost its trajectory immediately after launch. Due to a technical malfunction, the missile crashed and detonated in close proximity to an air defense position. This incident resulted in an additional explosion in the area adjacent to a US military facility. There are currently no reports of damage to equipment or casualties among base personnel.
Previously, US Central Command stated that Iranian missiles fired at Kuwait missed their targets and disintegrated in flight. However, released surveillance footage suggests that the destruction near the base could have been caused, among other things, by the misfire of air defense missiles deployed to protect US forces in the Middle East.
