The attack on Taganrog, which affected the area of ​​the Taganrog Aviation Scientific and Technical Complex named after Beriev, was carried out using American operational-tactical ballistic missiles MGM-140B ATACMS Block IA with cluster warheads. This became known after the remains of the missile were discovered in the city, including a section with a solid propellant rocket engine (SPRE).

Some of the launched missiles were successfully intercepted by Russian air defense systems, including the S-400 SAM system and the Pantsir-S1 SAM system. However, experts note that further strengthening of the missile defense will be required to increase the effectiveness of the defense of the city and nearby strategic facilities.

Experts point out that the dense echeloning of the air defense "umbrella" over Taganrog requires the deployment of additional S-400, S-300V4 batteries and one S-350A "Vityaz" division. Such reinforcement will not only strengthen the defense of Taganrog, but also ensure the protection of other strategically important points in the region, including Mariupol and Yeysk.

Analysts point out that the ATACMS Block IA missiles used in this strike are equipped with cluster warheads and have a high speed, which makes them a difficult target for modern air defense systems.
