The Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah has again issued threats against US naval forces in the Mediterranean. According to the organization, if necessary, American fleet ships located off the coast of Lebanon and Israel can be destroyed by missile strikes.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah hinted in a recent address that the movement has "something in store" without revealing details about the nature of the threat. He focused on the organization's readiness to resist the American naval presence in the region.
The video footage accompanying his words, although a simulation, clearly demonstrates Hezbollah's intentions to attack ships, referring to the American fleet.
Western media have disseminated information about the possible presence of Russian-made P-800 Oniks (Yakhont) anti-ship missiles with a range of up to 300 km. This information was provided by Reuters. There was no official confirmation of this information from the Russian side, but such reports caused concern in the West.
Reuters suggests that Hezbollah could receive such missiles from Syria, given the movement's participation in hostilities on the side of Bashar al-Assad's forces. Experts note a significant increase in Hezbollah's anti-ship capabilities compared to 2006, when the organization already demonstrated the ability to strike warships, in particular by hitting an Israeli ship in the Mediterranean Sea.
US military analysts describe Hezbollah's arsenal as "impressive," underscoring the serious threat posed by the armed movement.
