RIA Novosti: Russian air defense shot down two missiles over Melitopol

The Ukrainian military opened fire on Melitopol.

At approximately 00:30, the Ukrainian military fired two rockets in the direction of Melitopol, which were successfully shot down by Russian air defense systems on approach. Information on this subject is transmitted by the publication "RIA Novosti".

One of the rockets was intercepted so close above the ground that as a result of this, electricity was lost in one of the districts of the city - presumably, the power lines were damaged by the blast wave. This is also indicated by the video footage of casual witnesses of the shelling, who recorded the interception of one of the missiles.

Video footage shows a low-trajectory missile being intercepted by air defenses literally 20 meters above the ground, and the resulting shock wave is likely to have caused a power outage in the train station area, as indicated by a blue flash after a strong explosion.

With the use of what kind of weapons the attacks were carried out, it remains unknown, however, taking into account the territory controlled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, it could well have been the American Himars system or a similar M270 MLRS.
