On May 18, 2026, Russia and Belarus began joint training exercises on the use of tactical nuclear weapons. The exercises involve missile forces and aircraft from both countries. The goal of the maneuvers is to improve personnel training, test readiness for combat missions, and organize the combat use of nuclear weapons from unplanned areas.
During the exercise, military personnel will practice delivering nuclear weapons to launch sites and preparing them for use. The Belarusian Defense Ministry emphasized that the exercise is planned and is being conducted within the framework of the Union State. The timing of the exercise has not been announced.
This isn't the first joint nuclear exercise between Russia and Belarus. The previous exercise, involving tactical nuclear weapons carriers, was held in 2024 in two stages. Belarus also deployed Russian tactical nuclear weapons on its territory. The decision was made due to the escalation on the western borders of the Union State.
