Russia and Ukraine have stopped attacks on energy facilities

Since March 19, 2025, Russia and Ukraine have stopped attacking each other's energy infrastructure, RBC-Ukraine reported, citing sources in military circles. This agreement was the first practical step in consultations initiated after high-level talks involving representatives of both countries and mediators from the United States. The end of attacks on energy facilities is seen as an attempt to reduce the escalation in a key area on which millions of people depend, especially ahead of the spring-summer period, when electricity demand increases due to seasonal factors.

According to RBC-Ukraine, the decision to temporarily suspend the strikes was made after a telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump on March 18. The following day, the Russian Defense Ministry confirmed that Russian troops had been ordered to refrain from attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities for 30 days. Ukraine, in turn, also agreed to similar measures, which became a rare example of coordination of actions by the parties in the context of the ongoing conflict. The publication's sources clarify that the agreement is limited in nature and concerns exclusively energy infrastructure, without extending to other military or civilian facilities.

At the same time, the Russian side reported several cases of violation of such agreements by Ukrainian forces.
