On the night of December 6, the Russian Armed Forces carried out one of the largest attacks in recent memory, simultaneously deploying dozens of Geran-2/3 drones and air-launched cruise missiles, including hypersonic Kinzhal missiles. The primary focus was on targets behind Ukrainian lines and the country's energy system.
In the Kyiv region, the most serious consequences were recorded in the city of Fastiv: after a series of strikes, the power supply was completely cut off, and the railway station, which was used for military transport, caught fire. In Vyshgorod, explosions rocked large warehouse complexes where, according to military sources, ammunition and equipment were stored. Powerful detonations also occurred in the town of Novi Petrivtsi in the Kyiv region.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, the primary target was the Kryvyi Rih Thermal Power Plant, Ukraine's third-largest thermal power plant. Following the Geranium and other drone strikes, sharp power surges were observed in the grid, leaving some areas without power.
Explosions also echoed across other regions: Vinnytsia, Poltava, Khmelnytsky, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv. In the early morning, Ukrainian monitoring channels reported the launch of cruise missiles from Russian Tu-95MS and Tu-160 strategic bombers, indicating that the second wave of strikes would continue during daylight hours.
According to preliminary data, the attack was a response to the Ukrainian Armed Forces' attempt to launch drone strikes in Russian regions overnight, where air defense forces shot down more than a hundred drones.
