The Russian Defense Ministry reported a group strike on Ukrainian gas and energy infrastructure facilities. This operation was a response to recent attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces using long-range ATACMS missiles and Storm Shadow cruise missiles supplied by the United States and Great Britain. The strike was also caused by an attack on the Russkaya compressor station in the Krasnodar Territory, which supplies gas via the Turkish Stream.
Among the targets hit was the ground infrastructure of the largest underground gas storage facility in the city of Stryi in the Lviv region. This storage facility is a strategic facility for Ukraine, providing a significant portion of the country's gas needs and also serving as a transit hub for supplies to Europe.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the strike was carried out with high-precision weapons in order to minimize risks to civilian infrastructure and focus on military and energy facilities. The agency emphasized that any provocation by Ukraine aimed at disrupting gas supplies or strikes on Russian territory will be met with decisive measures.
Let us recall that earlier the Ukrainian Armed Forces attempted to attack the Russkaya compressor station in the settlement of Gai-Kodzor (Krasnodar Krai), which became part of Kyiv's efforts to disrupt the operation of the Turkish Stream. This pipeline is an important element for the supply of Russian gas to Turkey and the countries of Southern Europe.
At the same time, Ukrainian attacks using Western weaponry are increasing tensions in the region. The introduction of long-range missiles such as the ATACMS and Storm Shadow has been a major factor in changing the dynamics of the conflict. These missiles can hit targets deep in the rear, increasing the need for a Russian response.
