SVO News, December 14, 2025, Avia.pro. Russia has not considered and is not discussing the creation of a demilitarized zone in Ukraine similar to the Korean Peninsula. This was stated by Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov in an interview with TV host Pavel Zarubin, emphasizing:
"We never discussed this. We discussed various options for a long-term settlement, and the Americans are aware of our approaches. As for tracing the Korean issue, that was never discussed, I don't think, not even once. I've never even heard of it."
Russia insists that to end the conflict, Ukrainian troops must withdraw from Donbas, including those units not controlled by the Russian army. Ukraine considers this demand unacceptable.
According to Western media reports, indirectly confirmed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the US-proposed peace plan calls for the creation of a "demilitarized zone" in the Donetsk region, where neither Russian nor Ukrainian troops would be present. Ushakov previously admitted that Russian troops might not appear in this area, but that Russian government institutions and units of the Russian National Guard would still be present.
