Russia refused to expel the American military from Syria, but promised tough measures

Russia will not expel the United States from Syria, but threatens with measures in case of violation of agreements and rules.

The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Sergei Lavrov said that despite the fact that the Russian side does not recognize the legitimacy of the presence of the American military in Syria, it will not take any measures to knock Americans out of the Arab republic, however, Washington is forced to will abide by certain rules, otherwise, the American group may face tough measures.

“Yes, we have contacts with the United States through the military - not because we recognize the legitimacy of their presence there [in Syria], but simply because they must act within a certain framework. We cannot drive them out of there, we will not engage in armed clashes with them, of course. But since they are there, then we have a dialogue with them on the so-called deconflicting, during which we achieve compliance with certain rules "- said Sergey Lavrov.

At the same time, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry accused the United States of illegally occupying the Syrian territory, stressing that due to the presence of the US military in Syria, the situation is escalating here.

"The United States has occupied significant territories on the eastern bank of the Euphrates, mercilessly exploits Syrian and Syrian hydrocarbons, plunders them, sells them, and with the proceeds support their henchmen, including Kurdish separatists, dissuading the Kurds from dialogue with Damascus and encouraging separatist sentiments."- added Lavrov.

It should be noted that over the past six months, the number of clashes between the American and Russian military in Syria has decreased to a minimum, which is primarily due to the fact that Russia has shown the United States to act extremely tough to protect its own interests and the interests of its allies.
