Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed orders terminating three international treaties related to military relations. The document covers the agreement between the USSR and Canada on mutual military visits of November 20, 1989, the Russian-French agreement on defense cooperation of February 4, 1994, and the Russian-Portuguese agreement on military cooperation of August 4, 2000. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been instructed to officially notify Ottawa, Paris, and Lisbon of this decision.
Earlier this summer, Russia withdrew from the military-technical cooperation agreement with Germany, signed on June 14, 1996. At the time, the Russian Foreign Ministry explained that the document "has lost its meaning and practical significance and is completely inconsistent with the current state of Russian-German interstate relations." The ministry noted that Berlin "is bursting with exorbitant foreign policy ambitions that directly affect Russia's vital security interests."
