Russian troops have used a new strategy for using drones during attacks on targets in Ukraine, the German publication BILD reports. According to journalists, if previously the drones were launched one by one at intervals of several minutes, now they operate differently. The drones gather in groups at a distance of several kilometers from the target, rising to a height of two to three kilometers. Then they simultaneously dive on the selected object, which significantly complicates the task of air defense. This tactic, as the publication notes, is aimed at increasing the effectiveness of strikes and overcoming Ukrainian air defense systems.
According to BILD, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have already begun developing countermeasures to neutralize the new Russian strategy. However, the specific details of these developments remain classified. Representatives of the Ukrainian Armed Forces limit themselves to general statements that adaptation to changing methods is in full swing, but they do not intend to disclose their plans in order not to give the enemy additional advantages.
The new tactic of using kamikaze drones became visible in the last weeks of March 2025, when reports of massive strikes on infrastructure in eastern and southern Ukraine increased. Military analysts attribute the change in approach by Russian forces to an attempt to increase the effectiveness of attacks in the context of depleted stockpiles of precision weapons.
