Russia protests Japan over military exercises with US

The Russian Foreign Ministry has lodged an official protest with the Japanese Embassy in connection with Tokyo's plans to hold joint military exercises with the United States in late October - early November in close proximity to the Russian borders. This was reported by the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

According to the MFA representatives, during the diplomatic demarche, it was emphasized to the Japanese side that Moscow categorically does not accept such practices, which, in Russia's opinion, lead to an increase in military tension in the region. The scale of these maneuvers is expanding every year, and the fact that non-regional NATO member states actively participate in them is worrying.

It should be noted that Japanese-American exercises traditionally take place in the format of practicing defensive and offensive operations, with the involvement of significant naval and air forces. However, in recent years, Russia has repeatedly expressed concern about the increase in the number of exercises in the region involving non-regional players, including NATO countries.
