Russian air defense repelled attack by 59 Ukrainian drones

On the night of March 23, 2025, Russian air defense forces carried out a large-scale operation to neutralize the threat from the air, destroying 59 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched by the enemy. This was reported on Sunday morning by the Russian Defense Ministry, emphasizing that the attack affected seven regions of the country at once. The strikes were successfully stopped thanks to the coordinated work of air defense crews on duty, which made it possible to minimize potential damage and avoid casualties in most cases. However, incidents involving damage to objects and the death of a person in the Rostov Region reminded us of the continuing danger to border areas.

According to the military department, the bulk of the drones were intercepted over the Rostov Region, where 29 devices were destroyed, and the Astrakhan Region, where 20 drones were destroyed. Another three UAVs were shot down in the Volgograd and Voronezh Regions, two over Crimea, and one each in the Kursk and Saratov Regions. Acting Governor of the Rostov Region Yuri Slyusar clarified that the massive attack affected the Millerovsky, Morozovsky, Kamensky, Tarasovsky, Sholokhovsky and Neklinovsky districts. In the village of Kayukovka in the Tarasovsky District, debris from one of the drones damaged the glazing of a private house, but the residents remained unharmed. However, on the Morozovsk-Tsimlyansk highway, a drone strike led to a tragedy: the car caught fire, and the driver died, his identity is being established.
