In January 2025, an incident occurred in the city of Angarsk in the Irkutsk region involving an attempt to set fire to military equipment on the territory of a local military unit. Officers of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia detained two teenagers born in 2007 and 2009 suspected of committing this crime. According to the FSB Directorate for the Irkutsk Region, the young people threw bottles of flammable liquid onto the territory of the unit, but neither the equipment nor the servicemen were harmed.

During the investigation, it was established that the detainees also tried to collect information about other military and transport facilities for subsequent arson. During interrogations, the teenagers admitted that they had contacted representatives of the Ukrainian special services via a messenger. They were promised a reward of 30 thousand rubles for committing arson, but after the task was completed, the money was not paid.

Currently, a criminal case has been opened against the detainees under the article on a terrorist act committed by a group of persons by prior conspiracy. Law enforcement officers continue the investigation aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the incident and possible accomplices of the crime.

The incident is part of a larger trend seen in Russia in recent years. Most often, the perpetrators used Molotov cocktails, causing minor damage to buildings. The perpetrators' motives ranged from protest to actions provoked by telephone scammers posing as intelligence officers and convincing citizens to commit arson under various pretexts.

In response to the increasing number of arson cases, law enforcement agencies have stepped up measures to prevent such crimes and bring those responsible to justice. Authorities are calling on citizens to be vigilant and not to succumb to provocations, and to report suspicious persons and actions to the appropriate authorities.

The situation with the involvement of minors in illegal activities is of particular concern. Experts note the need for preventive work with young people aimed at explaining the consequences of participation in illegal actions and the importance of following the law.
