The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation decided to radically reduce military activity in the Kiev and Chernihiv directions.
According to the official statement of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, it was decided to radically reduce military activity in the Kiev and Chernigov directions. This, in all likelihood, is due to the fact that within the framework of the ongoing negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian sides, a decision was reached to reduce the escalation of tension and begin preparations for the signing of an agreement on the neutrality and non-nuclear status of Ukraine.
“Due to the fact that negotiations on the preparation of an agreement on the neutrality and non-nuclear status of Ukraine, as well as on the provision of security guarantees to Ukraine, are moving into practice, taking into account the principles discussed during today's meeting, by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in order to increase mutual trust and create necessary conditions for further negotiations and achievement of the ultimate goal of agreeing and signing the above agreement, a decision was made to radically, at times, reduce military activity in the Kiev and Chernihiv direction "- said the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Colonel-General Alexander Fomin.
Experts note that thanks to such actions, it will be possible to significantly intensify the negotiation process and achieve the speedy fulfillment of Russian requirements for Ukraine.
In turn, experts note that there is a very serious risk that during this time the Armed Forces of Ukraine can significantly strengthen these areas, which will create additional difficulties in the event of a breakdown in de-escalation agreements.
At the moment, it remains unknown whether Russian troops will remain in these regions or whether a significant part of the forces will be withdrawn, for example, to operate in other directions.
