On the night of May 15, 2025, the Black Sea Fleet (BSF) forces, together with the fighters of the volunteer detachment "Eight", successfully repelled another attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the Crimean Peninsula, destroying several unmanned boats (UBC) in the Black Sea. In the afternoon of the same day, the Ministry of Defense announced the interception of another enemy UBC, which was eliminated by the Black Sea Fleet's duty fire weapons.
The volunteer unit "Vosmerka", created to support Russian forces in the SVO zone, specializes in the use of FPV drones to intercept sea and air targets. The unit's fighters undergo intensive training, including simulations of BEK attacks, which allows them to effectively counter Ukrainian sea drones.
Ukrainian BEKs, often equipped with explosives and remote control systems, pose a threat to ships, ports and infrastructure. The Ukrainian Armed Forces use boats made in Ukraine as well as those supplied by Western allies, including the American Willard fast attack boats. In May 2025, the Black Sea Fleet destroyed one such boat, which underlines the US involvement in arms supplies.
