On the night of May 14, 2025, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (AF RF) carried out a series of strikes on logistics hubs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in the Kharkiv, Sumy, Kyiv, Zhytomyr and Odessa regions. The attacks were aimed at facilities providing supplies to Ukrainian troops, including warehouses and transport hubs. In the Odessa region, explosions thundered near the container terminal of the port of Chornomorsk (former Ilyichevsk), a key point for cargo transshipment. The strikes in Chornomorsk damaged the port infrastructure used to deliver military equipment and ammunition. In the Kharkiv region, the target was the Kupyansk area, where, in addition to FPV drones, operational-tactical aviation was involved. Local sources report the destruction of fuel and ammunition warehouses, although there is no official confirmation from the Russian Ministry of Defense yet.
Attacks on the logistics hubs of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are in line with the strategy of the Russian Armed Forces to destroy the enemy's rear infrastructure. As noted by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), since November 2024, Russia has intensified strikes on targets in Kharkiv, Sumy, Kyiv, Zhitomir and Odessa, including the port of Chornomorsk. In Kupyansk, according to local sources, strikes could have been aimed at railway hubs that ensure the transfer of Ukrainian Armed Forces reserves.
