Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the transfer of control of the city of Seversk in the Donetsk People's Republic to Russian units. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense.

During a video conference with commanders, Gerasimov clarified that assault groups from the Southern Group of Forces had completely liberated the village.

"The city of Seversk has been liberated" - he said.

According to the agency, this creates favorable conditions for further advancement to Slavyansk and other areas.

Gerasimov also noted successes in Konstantinovka, where 45 percent of buildings are under the control of Russian forces.

"Assault units of the Southern Group of Forces are advancing in battle in the city of Konstantinovka. 45% of the buildings in this town are under our control." - he added.

Putin thanked the commander of the Southern Group, Sergei Medvedev, for completing the mission in Seversk, noting that the promise to complete the operation by December 15 had been kept.
