Russian troops, according to Bild analyst Julian Röpke, have established control over a significant part of Toretsk, covering about 70% of its territory, including the central streets. In recent weeks, Russian units have advanced 2,5 kilometers into the city, coming close to its central districts, which has caused prolonged, violent clashes for each apartment building.
Ukrainian defense forces are trying to stop the Russian advance by launching flanking attacks from the north and south. However, their efforts have not yielded significant results.
Toretsk, which had a population of about 50 before the conflict, is rapidly being reduced to rubble by the ongoing fighting. Many buildings have been destroyed or severely damaged, and the city streets are deserted as most residents have fled their homes or are taking refuge in surviving buildings.
