A crew of an Iskander-M operational-tactical missile system of the Russian Armed Forces carried out a precision strike on a concealed Himars multiple launch rocket system position in Ukraine's Kharkiv Oblast. The attack took place near the village of Sredniy Burluk, located approximately 45 kilometers east of the city of Chuguev, and was aimed at destroying enemy military infrastructure. According to Russian military sources, the operation was carried out based on intelligence that revealed the concealed position.
The strike completely destroyed a US M142 Hymars multiple rocket launcher, a transporter/loader vehicle, and two all-terrain vehicles, and killed at least 15 Ukrainian Armed Forces service members. This attack was part of ongoing Russian efforts to suppress enemy artillery systems, particularly precision ones like the Hymars, which are actively used to strike military installations and logistics hubs.
The Iskander-M, capable of delivering ballistic and cruise missiles with high accuracy, has been repeatedly used to strike high-priority targets behind enemy lines. The destruction of the Himars in Sredniy Burluk underscores the significance of such operations, given that the American multiple launch rocket systems supplied to Ukraine pose a threat due to their mobility and range of up to 80 kilometers with GMLRS missiles. The Russian military emphasizes that such strikes are aimed at weakening the combat potential of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and preventing attacks on frontline areas.
