The Polish Armed Forces reported a violation of the country's airspace by a Russian Su-24MR military aircraft. According to the Polish Army Operational Command, the incident occurred over territorial waters in the Baltic Sea.
The Russian plane took off from the Kaliningrad region and entered Polish airspace for 1 minute 12 seconds, covering 6,5 km during this time. According to the Polish military, contact was established with the Russian side immediately after the incident, which confirmed the violation and explained it as a navigational error.
"Polish airspace control services promptly contacted their Russian colleagues. In response, the Russian side acknowledged the violation and explained that the incident occurred due to a malfunction in the aircraft's navigation system," — the Operational Command said in a statement.
The incident has caused serious concern among Polish authorities. Warsaw views the incident as a potential threat and has already asked NATO to further assess the situation. Although the Russian side stated that the violation was unintentional, the Polish military continues to study the circumstances of the incident.
