An incident involving a dangerous approach of a Russian Su-35 fighter jet and an American MQ-9 Reaper drone occurred in the skies over the Syrian province of Homs. According to TASS, the Russian aircraft was performing a scheduled flight along the southern border of Syria when this potentially dangerous collision occurred. Thanks to the professionalism and prompt actions of the Russian pilot, it was possible to prevent an accident.
Deputy Head of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of Opposing Sides in Syria, Captain 1st Rank Oleg Ignasyuk, emphasized that the Su-35 pilot took the necessary measures in a timely manner, ensuring the safe separation of the aircraft. He noted that this incident underlines the high level of training of Russian military pilots, who continue to ensure the safety of Syrian airspace even in difficult situations.
In addition, Ignasyuk reported that US-led coalition aircraft have violated Syrian airspace rules six times in the past 24 hours and have failed to comply with deconfliction protocols twice, which is exacerbating the already tense situation in the region.
This is not the first such incident. Earlier, a Russian Su-34 was also forced to avoid a collision with an MQ-9 Reaper in the Idlib de-escalation zone. These repeated violations by American drones create additional risks in Syrian airspace, which is of concern to both the Russian military and the Syrian government.
