UAV Syria

Russian ZRPK "Pantsir-S" shot down a drone attacking the airbase "Khmeimim"

The Russian airbase "Khmeimim" is attacked by a drone.

After the Russian military airbase "Khmeimim" was attacked the previous afternoon around noon, it became known that Syrian militants attacked a Russian military airfield in the Syrian province of Latakia not using rockets, but using a drone.

“At 12:30, a UAV launched from the territory controlled by illegal armed groups in the Idlib de-escalation zone was detected by means of airspace control at the Russian Khmeimim airbase. The missile armament of the Pantsir-S anti-aircraft missile-gun system of the Russian air base destroyed the air target at a distance from the air base. There are no casualties or property damage as a result of the incident. Russian airbase "Khmeimim" operates as planned ", - said in the official message of the Center for the Reconciliation of the Warring Parties of the Russian Armed Forces in Syria.

It is known that the drone (and initially it was reported about an attack using two rockets MLRS "Grad"), carried out a flight from the territory of Idlib, which is under the control of jihadists. It is reported that the drone was made by an artisanal method and carried several ammunition, which was supposed to be dropped on the territory of a Russian military airbase.

This is one of the first jihadist attacks on a Russian military airfield in Syria in the past few months. Most likely, it is associated with the intensification of attacks by the Russian Aerospace Forces on the militants.
