The head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Ghebreyesus, made a statement due to the growing number of COVID-19 cases in many countries.
Ghebreyesus indicated that respiratory illnesses caused by COVID-19, influenza and other pathogens have been observed in many countries for several weeks and, according to his expectations, will continue after the recent holidays. In this regard, he urged everyone to take precautions to reduce the risk of infection.
The head of WHO recommends getting tested for COVID-19 and, if necessary, seeking medical help. He also stressed the importance of wearing masks, ensuring proper ventilation and distancing, and getting vaccinated against COVID-19 and influenza.
In addition, Ghebreyesus called on countries to ensure access to tests and vaccines, as well as support COVID-19 sequencing to track the evolution of virus mutations. These measures, he said, are extremely important to combat the spread of infection and protect public health.
