Ryabkov: US warned Russia about "countermeasures" under START, putting forward conditions, but Russia will not comply with ultimatums

Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov said that the United States warned Russia of possible "countermeasures" under the START Treaty, while imposing a number of conditions. However, as Ryabkov stressed, the Russian side does not accept ultimatums.

The Deputy Minister also outlined Moscow's position on maintaining transparency in matters of military security. He expressed hope that the United States would continue the practice of mutual notification of launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs). This will help to avoid further dangerous exacerbations against the backdrop of current international contradictions.

Sergei Ryabkov emphasized the inviolability of Russia's decision to suspend the implementation of its obligations under the START, regardless of possible measures or countermeasures from Washington. At the same time, he noted that Moscow is ready to return to the full functioning of this agreement, however, this requires the United States to abandon its hostile policy towards the Russian Federation.

Thus, Ryabkov stressed the invariability of Russia's position regarding the START and expressed hope for a constructive approach on the part of the United States to reduce military risks and establish stability in the international arena.
